Mary Ann Bills holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Washington State University and a Master of Music degree in Accompanying from the University of North Carolina – Greensboro. Her teachers have included Loran Olsen, Benton Hess, Andrew Willis and Peter Kairoff. She has also maintained a private teaching studio for more than thirty-five years. Mrs. Bills has received professional certification from both the North Carolina Music Teachers Association and Music Teachers National Association and has been active for many years in leadership positions in local and state organizations.

In addition to her teaching, Mary Ann Bills serves as the music director and pianist  for the opera workshop at North Carolina School of the Arts and  for the A. J. Fletcher Opera Institute’s Educational Outreach Program. She is also a staff accompanist in the NCSA School of Music.

On-stage experience has included  solo and collaborative performances in the Pacific Northwest in her early years, in Switzerland and Germany, where she lived for more than six years, serving for a time as the pianist for the Stuttgart German-American Chorus. She currently enjoys many opportunities to accompany singers and instrumentalists in performances throughout the Southeast.

Enthusiastic about musical theatre, Mrs. Bills has been involved in more than thirty productions as musical director and/or pianist. Recent performances have includedMy Way with the Little Theatre of Winston-Salem, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Annie, Carousel and Scrooge with the West Side Civic Theatre and Nunsense, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Once Upon a Mattress with Salem College.

Other recent projects include preparation of a piano vocal score of Giuseppe Gazzaniga’s Don Giovanni, a publishable version of the Fletcher Institute’s outreach opera, The Butcher of Seville, and the rehearsal score for a recent production of Donizetti’s Belisario.
