David Geary, Assistant Professor of Music, earned his Master of Arts in Music Theory Pedagogy from the Eastman School of Music in 2015, and he graduated summa cum laude from Ithaca College in 2013 with a Bachelor of Music in both Music Theory and Music Education. He will complete his PhD in music theory from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music in the fall of 2019, where his dissertation analyzes rhythm and meter in popular music. Prior to joining the faculty at Wake Forest, where he will be teaching music theory and history courses, he was a Visiting Instructor of Music Theory at Oberlin Conservatory.
Tim Heath, Director of Athletic Bands, will be conducting the WFU Marching Band and Pep Bands (collectively referred to as the “Spirit of the Old Gold and Black” or SOTOGAB.) He comes to Wake Forest from Samford University, where he was the Director of Athletic Bands and Assistant Professor of Music Education. He also served as Assistant Director of the Wind Ensemble and was a member of the conducting faculty during his tenure at Samford. Prior to teaching at Samford University, Dr. Heath was a graduate teaching assistant with The University of Alabama Bands. At the University of Alabama, Dr. Heath conducted the pep bands for all major sports, The University of Alabama Concert Band, and served as a staff member with The Million Dollar Band where he also arranged for the Million Dollar Band’s Front Ensemble.
Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, guitarist Marco Sartor is a top prize winner in numerous international competitions, and has performed solo and chamber music recitals in three continents to critical and public acclaim. He has appeared with orchestras such as the Allentown Symphony, Virginia Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Ann Arbor Symphony, and SODRE in Uruguay. Dr. Sartor has designed and implemented successful guitar programs at the Carnegie Mellon Music Preparatory School in Pittsburgh, PA and the Charleston Academy of Music in Charleston, SC, and served as faculty for the College and High-School Divisions of the New World School of the Arts in Miami, FL. At Wake Forest, he will teach guitar classes and individual instruction in all guitar styles.
