Be a part of history!  Become a member of WAKE VOICES!

ABOUT: WAKE VOICES is a newly created mixed (co-ed) vocal ensemble at Wake Forest University.  We exist to showcase the talents of our diverse student body as we serve the campus and local community through the beauty of choral singing. We seek to establish a welcoming place to connect, express, belong, invigorate, and grow through the singing of varied musical styles. WAKE VOICES performs classical, folk, acapella, modern and multi-cultural repertoire.

If you love to sing in harmony, enjoy making music in community with others, have broad musical tastes, and pursue excellence in all you do, WAKE VOICES is the place for you!

A brief audition will be used to determine vocal range, voice quality, and musical background.  You are welcome to sing a piece of solo repertoire, but it is not mandatory.  Ability to read music is a plus, but not required.

WAKE VOICES is led by Dr. Bryon Grohman, assistant professor in the music department.  An active performer and conductor, Grohman has led choral ensembles across the country and was a core member of Grammy-nominated® Seraphic Fire, a professional vocal ensemble based in Miami.  Grohman comes with years of experience in a broad range of western and non-western musical styles.  At WFU, he teaches individual voice, class voice, theatrical singing, and Introduction to Modern Popular Music.

While WAKE VOICES is faculty-directed, much of its identity will develop through student-led governance and initiative.  Within this inaugural year, we will seek to find opportunities for artistic, administrative, and social leadership.
