It’s been a wonderful start to our semester at WFU Music! Here are just a few of our highlights:

Welcome new faculty!

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Caryn Greco to WFU Music as Assistant Professor of Music, voice and Dr. Mathilde Handelsman as Visiting Assistant Professor, piano.

We’re also excited to welcome our new adjunct faculty Dr. Edward Cho, cello, and Dr. Rachael Keplin, violin and viola.

Congratulations, Dr. Megan Francisco!

Dr. Francisco was recently invited to give pre-concert lectures for two performances of the Winston-Salem Symphony: Rhapsody in Blue featuring works by Johannes Brahms, George Gershwin, and Richard Strauss, and Jurassic Park in Concert.

Dr. Francisco also gave the pre-concert talk for the world premiere “Bartók Reborn,” commissioned by WFU’s Secrest Artists Series and performed by the icarus Quartet, featuring Dr. Larry Weng.

Congratulations, Dr. Larry Weng!

Congratulations to Dr. Larry Weng and the icaurs Quartet for their critically-acclaimed Secrest Artists Series’ performance, featuring world premiere compositions from Martin Bresnick, Viet Cuong, and Jennifer Higdon.

The icarus Quartet is currently working with composer Ruby Fulton on a nine-movement piece entitled the Wilderness Suite. For this commission, the icarus Quartet received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Focused on, and inspired by, Idaho’s Big Creek Drainage in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, this multi-modal project-in-process is a bold interdisciplinary collaboration of geography, music, and film that explores themes of environmental change, wilderness and water.

Congratulations, Joshuah Brian Campbell!

Congratulations to WFU Gospel Choir director Joshuah Brian Campbell! Joshuah Campbell has released his debut single “Where I Come From,” part of his upcoming album “Days Like These.” Joshuah Campbell is an award-winning composer, singer, songwriter, actor and ministry worker.

The Wake Forest University Gospel Choir began as a student-run organization founded in 1974. It is the oldest multicultural organization at Wake Forest and has a rich history of uplifting others through song. Over the years, the group has performed locally and nationally, recorded an album, and welcomed gospel artists to campus during annual concerts.
