World Music Ensembles

Wake Forest offers several world music ensembles: the Wake Forest Gamelan percussion and dance ensembles (MUS117A and MUS117B), which provide a hands-on exploration of the performing arts of Bali, Indonesia; the Wake Forest Chinese Ensemble (listed under MUS120; POI required), which offers more advanced study of traditional Chinese music instruments; and the Afro-Cuban Drumming Ensemble (MUS126), which explores the music and history of West African drumming through hands-on experience. Both the Gamelan and Afro-Cuban Drumming ensembles are open to all Wake Forest students – no audition or previous experience is required – and the Wake Forest Gamelan also welcomes faculty and staff, as well as the greater Winston-Salem community.
