Awards
The Giles-Harris Music Competitions
Occurring each spring semester, the Giles-Harris Music Competitions honor former esteemed piano faculty members Lucille Harris and Christopher Giles and offer WFU student musicians the chance to perform and compete for cash prizes. Invited guest judges from among the region’s finest musicians choose the winning performances in both voice/instrumental and piano divisions. All WFU students enrolled in individual instruction on any instrument or voice type and regardless of their major are eligible to enter the Competitions with their instructor’s permission.
More information and history about the Giles-Harris Music Competitions can be found on the Giles-Harris Music Competitions page.
The Boteler Prize for the Pursuit of Excellence in Music
This prize is awarded annually to one or more outstanding undergraduate music students to pursue individual projects to advance their musical education. Eligible music majors and minors are nominated by individual faculty to submit proposals for the prize each spring. The award was established in memory of Louise Cochrane Boteler (’75), who pursued a career in choral music education following graduation.
The Christian Cappelluti Prize
This prize is awarded to one or more students demonstrating outstanding musical merit and promise. Students at any level, including incoming first-year students, may be nominated by a faculty member, with awards made upon a vote of the full music faculty. The award is named in memory of WFU graduate Christian Cappelluti (’97), who died unexpectedly at the age of 22.
