Alan Reese is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Wake Forest University and teaches courses in music theory and music history. He earned his PhD in Music Theory from the Eastman School of Music where his dissertation developed analytical approaches to the middle-period music of Karol Szymanowski. Dr. Reese also holds an MM from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a BM from the University of Georgia. Before joining the faculty at Wake Forest University, he was an Instructor of Music Theory at the Cleveland Institute of Music.Dr. Reese’s music theoretical interests include the music of Grażyna Bacewicz, post-tonal and transformational theories, popular music, and music theory pedagogy. He has published in Music Theory Spectrum and his work will appear in the forthcoming Expanding the Canon: Black Composers in the Music Theory Classroom. Dr. Reese has also presented research at meetings for the Society for Music Theory, Theorizing African-American Music, Music Theory Midwest, the Music Theory Society of New York State, and the Rocky Mountain Society for Music Theory.
